Welcome to Mermaids Cove!  Our new store has just opened in the historic community of Old Town San Diego.  We are easy to find at 2415 San Diego Avenue and there is plenty of free parking in the garage below us right off Conde Street. Elevator service to the street level is also provided for your convenience. Now.....

"ITS ALL ABOUT THE TAIL"

The artist is carefully chosen, then the first tail is created for the front entrance.

HERE COMES THE WOOD!

 Top boards were cut into 8" wide strips and random lengths.

Once installed, the boards were "whitewashed" with a mixture of 50% water and 50% "Rockport Grey" ceiling paint.  Then five coats of urathane sealer were applied.

CEILING IS DONE...NOW THE WALLS

These white walls are too antiseptic!

Six different shades of aqua are chosen for the walls.

The walls are done and the sub floor gets installed.

OOPS..THE CEILING HAS TO BE FINISHED BEFORE THE FLOOR IS INSTALLED.

"WE CANT HAVE WHITE CEILING TILES..."

Each tile was individually hand painted, then cut to fit

Nine gallons of paint later, the ceiling was finished in beautiful "OPAL SILK"

 AND WHEN ALL THE DUST SETTLED...

NOW WE ARE READY FOR THE WOOD

CLIMATE CONTROL

TWO...NOT ONE...3 TON AC UNITS WITH STATE OF THE ART CONTROLS ARE INSTALLED TO KEEP OUR GUESTS COOL ON THOSE HOT SUMMER DAYS.

THEY ARE MOUNTED UNDER THE CEILING IN THE OFFICE FOR EASY ACCESS SHOULD ANY SERVICE OR REPAIRS BE NEEDED.

We extend our apologies as we have been "underground" for a while during the creation of our new "home"  for Mermaids Cove.  For those who are interested, in ongoing blogs, we will share various photos taken along the journey of the past many weeks. Here, construction is finally underway. The project involved major remodeling and refurbishing of a large area of over 3500 square feet.  The space was divided in half and Mermaids Cove occupies the north section with access to an adjoining courtyard of European flair shared with a variety of other merchants.

Renovation and remodeling are almost complete....the only items left are the whitewash flooring and the "mermaided" walls and ceiling.  Began in March, this project has been quite a journey and it is hoped we will open towards the end of the month.  Look in now and then, we will post updates from time to time!

NEW PRODUCT

Ahoy all  journal lovers!  This is a new journal we just put on the shelves and it sold out before Neptune could finish reading all the interesting sentiments that appear within it's pages.  We just received another shipment so take a look.  It is found in the "Mermaid Inspiration" category!  Splash in on yours now!

HERE WE GO AGAIN...DONE!!

Here are the "after" pictures which correspond to the first pictures revealed in April's "HERE WE GO AGAIN".  We are finally open at the new location in the Flower Hill Promenade which is being celebrated today from 4pm to 8pm at a "GRAND OPENING CELEBRATION" !! Refreshments and treats are being served...hope to see you there!  SPLASH!!!

HERE WE GO AGAIN

The "Cove" is on the move again.  In just a few days, we will moving into our new location within the Flower Hill Promenade in Del Mar. We are teaming up with the fabulous cafe venue, The Pannikin, in an open floor design to offer our customers the convenience of "treats" and "treasures" all under one roof!  These pictures of the work-in-process (click on the picture to enlarge) show the view from the back of the store looking outside, one of our massive walls to hang art, and the new cashier station.  We can hardly contain our excitement as this project unfolds.  Be sure to "splash in" when we open on April 18th....mention you read this and we will have a mermaid treasure waiting for you!  SPLASH!!

Splashing news! We have just created a new lagoon in the Mermaid Cove at "Del Mar Art & Gift" in Stratford Square, Olde Del Mar at 15th Street and Camino Del Mar. We now feature an array of enticing bath products to cleanse your fins, moisturize your skin, and lavish yourself with an essence of the sea. The Sand Dollar collection is just an amazing sprinkling of tenderness for all sea sirens. Discover sand dollar shaped soaps, the Floating Pearl Shower Gel, marine atmospheric diffusers, nourishing body lotions, and luxurious bath soaks. Get to soaking girls!!  SPLASH!

SWIMMING AHEAD!!!

Wow!!  Some days I feel like I am swimming through oatmeal....REALLY NOW.....can't a mermy just get a small breaker...instead of tidal waves?  We are moving forward however. Now we are able to process payments through Pay Pal, who will process any credit card. (Don't be fooled, you don't have to have a Pay Pal account....even though it seems that way). Anyway, our direct payment processor is almost on board. Holy Neptune....choosing one of those guys is like trying to find a pearl in an oyster. The good news is..it is almost done and.... now there are over 120 different products uploaded onto the shelves in OUR STORE    Before you know it....we will reach our goal toppling over 500 items!!  Now that will be some fin flippin' fun!!

ALMOST READY

We are almost ready to enable the checkout process on our new online store. The new platform is the tab named "OUR STORE"  among the category tabs at the top of our home page.  The "ONLINE GIFT SHOP" tab will actually disappear when this happens.  We certainly hope that this has not been an inconvenience, because if a purchase has been attempted, it will only offer a "phone order" payment method at this time.  In only a few short days, the process will be completed! We appreciate your patience...the wait will be well worth it!!!  SPLASH!!!!

NEW ARRIVALS

Hey Mermaids!!!  These are on the way to the stores now and they are wonderful new summer tees for that little girl who adores the mermaid...(like me).   As a cover up (white), or as an everyday wear tee, they will bring pearls of joy and laughter to any day.  Check them out in the "MERMAID CHILD" category of "OUR STORE".  Every day, we make a little more progress adding new and exciting items to our website....don't forget to vote for your favorite sea life creature on our homepage!!  SPLASH!!!!

NEW STORE FRONT

Holy Neptune!!  About 50 products have been added to the new checkout platform.....only 350 more to go!!!  To see the new platform, click on "OUR STORE", the old platform is "Online Gift Shop".  I guess I am going to have to call on all my seahorse friends to help me out!   I need all the "horsepower" I can get to help me finish this!!!   splash!!!!

MAKING PROGRESS

The process to transform our checkout platform is underway.  Today, the beautiful mermaid jewelry from designer Steven Douglas was added to our new store.  To view his incredible work, go to the category manager tabs at the top of the home page, click on "OUR STORE", then click on "MERMAIDS ONLY", then click on "THE MERMAID PERSON".....then, finally...click on JEWELRY!

GETTING BACK ON TRACK & WEBSITE REVISION

HOLY NEPTUNE!! That sums up the last few years and the expansion that has taken place on the "brick and mortar" scene. We now have four locations in San Diego county that embrace the "Enchantress of the Sea" offering uncommon coastal decor and sea-life gifts. Unfortunately, it has caused me to neglect "MermaidCoveOnline", however, she is now going to receive the much needed attention that she so much deserves. We are in process of reorganizing the "online store" to make it much more interesting and to facilitate the checkout process. To get a glimpse, click on "OUR STORE" in the category headings and you will see the change that is taking place. With over four hundred different products in our "physical" stores, it will be an ongoing everyday process to upload them to our website. Keep checking as we will be adding new products every day.
